NEW HAVEN, CT — A new overnight parking ban for the downtown area begins at 9 p.m. Tuesday and ends at 5 a.m., Wednesday, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker announced.

The measure was put in place so city snowplows and trucks can more easily remove and haul away snow mountains to "widen street lanes, increase visibility, and open up street parking spots," Elicker said in a message to residents.

Elicker also noted that, in addition to the downtown ban, some narrow streets will have daytime parking bans on Wednesday or other days this week to help facilitate snow removal. Elicker said those "streets will be clearly posted with no parking signs the day before and residents will also be notified via a separate call or message."
