Fitch Street Home Invasion Victim Was Sprayed With Fire Extinguisher, Robbed: NHPD

NEW HAVEN, CT — Late Tuesday night, cops were called to what was first reported as a carjacking but soon was determined to be a home invasion where the perpetrators assaulted a man with a fire extinguisher, robbed him, and then made their getaway in the victim's car, police said.

It was around 11:15 p.m. when officers responded to the 100 block of Fitch Street and there, found the victim, who said two "males entered the unlocked apartment, sprayed him with a fire extinguisher, demanded he empty his pockets, and then left the scene in the victim's vehicle."

The victim stated that one male, who was wearing a ski mask, had a black handgun, stood 5’8’ to 5’10” tall, and wore a black hoodie, according to New Haven police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart.

The other male had the fire extinguisher and was described as a heavy-set Hispanic male with a light complexion, also about the same height, police said.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Bruckhart said that with the help of analysts assigned to the Real Time Crime Center, "officers located the vehicle in the Fair Haven section of the city." They tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled and was later found parked and unoccupied, Bruckhart said
