NEW HAVEN, CT—A 16-year-old was shot on Winthrop Avenue Tuesday afternoon, police said.

In a post to 'X,' police wrote that the boy, a New Haven resident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. According to police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart, the teen was located "in the bathroom of a nearby convenience store suffering a gunshot wound to his leg."

He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening, Bruckhart said.

"The victim said he was walking on a nearby street when he was approached by a male who pulled out a gun and shot him," Bruckhart said.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department's anonymous tip-line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
