New Haven Man Facing Charges In 2021 North Haven Fatal Shooting: PD
Elder Mellado, 23, is the third man charged in the killing of Davonte Warren, 28, of New Haven, gunned down in July 2021, police said.
NORTH HAVEN, CT —A third man has been charged in connection with the 2021 murder of Davonte Warren in North Haven, police said Wednesday.
Elder Mellado, 23, of New Haven, was taken into custody Tuesday by the North Haven police, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, New Haven Shooting Crimes Task Force, and New Haven Criminal Intelligence Unit, police said.
Mellado was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and criminal liability for acts of another/murder, according to North Haven police.

Warren, 28, was shot and killed in July 2021. Police, responding to a report of gunfire on Dixwell Avenue, found a vehicle crashed on the Route 40 connector occupied by Warren, who was pronounced dead at the scene with a fatal gunshot wound, according to police.
Investigators were told by witnesses they saw a vehicle pull next to Warren’s, fire several rounds toward the car and then speed off, police said.

In January, police said that after a “long and complex investigation,” Amari Salcedo Jr., 22, and Deane Matta Jr., 24, both of New Haven, were charged in connection with the killing.
Salcedo was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Matta was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
"As we said from the onset of this investigation, we will not rest until those responsible for bringing violence to our streets are held accountable, and we will use any and all legal means to hunt them down and support a successful prosecution," North haven police said. "We will not tolerate violence, particularly gun violence, to permeate in our streets unchecked. We thank all the agencies that have assisted us thus far, and will continue to support the Warren family."
