New Haven's 3rd Homicide Of 2023, Man Shot On Jan. 4 Dies: Police

Kentel Robinson, 30, of New Haven was shot Jan. 4 on Chapel St. He died 3 days later from his injuries. His is the third homicide of 2023.

NEW HAVEN, CT — On the night of Jan. 4, just outside the Saint Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital, a man was shot.

It was around 9:30 p.m. when cops got a 911 call about a shooting on Chapel Street, between Beers and Orchard streets.

Monday, police confirmed that Kentel Robinson, 30, of New Haven died from his injuries three days later, on Jan. 7.

First homicide of 2023

At just after 3 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2023, New Haven police got a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on Grand Avenue, between Poplar Street and Blatchley Avenue. When police got there, they found Dontae Myers, 23, of New Haven, shot, police spokesperson Scott Shumway said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, he died from his injuries.

Second homicide of 2023

Friday night at 8 p.m., cops got a Shotspotter alert about gunfire and a person shot on Pond Lily Avenue, between Valley Street and the dead-end of Pond Lily Avenue, police said. When police got to the scene, they found Charles Miller, a 41-year-old West Haven man, who'd been shot, police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, Miller died from the gunshot injuries, Shumway said.
