1. Yale-New Haven Hospital Hit With $15.1 Million Verdict In Surgery Case (patch.com) — New Haven readers will note that a jury has ordered Yale-New Haven Hospital to pay $15.1 million to an 85-year-old Groton woman after she was blinded during brain surgery there in 2019. The verdict found the hospital negligent in how antiseptic chemicals were handled, and the patient's family hopes the outcome prompts safer practices for future surgeries in New Haven.

2. New Haven leaders clash over how to pay for new after-school program (wfsb.com) — New Haven families relying on the new After School Initiative may see its funding model change as Mayor Justin Elicker and the Board of Alders clash over using nearly $1 million from the general fund. Alders have already cut support for some tutoring nonprofits and delayed a Boys and Girls Club grant, even as 800 children currently use these programs. Leaders say they're working to avoid interruptions while they renegotiate how to pay.
