Suspected Stabber Shot Dead: New Haven PD

The stabber said "Happy Halloween" and then stabbed the two men, one of whom fired his gun, according to the victim's account.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating after two men were stabbed and one was shot dead following an altercation at Sperry and Goffe Streets around 10 p.m. Oct. 9.

A 21-year-old city man told police was walking on Sperry Street when he was confronted by a man holding a knife who said "Happy Halloween." The man then stabbed him, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman. The victim's cousin, a 24-year-old man from Hamden, who was waiting in a nearby car rushed out and was also stabbed.

The 24-year-old pulled out his pistol and shot the stabber in the chest. He has a valid pistol permit and legally possessed his pistol, Hartman said.The shooter hasn't been charged and the investigation continues. To sign up for New Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.

Police haven't identified the deceased man. Both victims sustained non-life threatening wounds.
