House Destroyed, Several Others Badly Damaged In New London Fire

Homes were evacuated, power was cut, and mutual aid came from across the area to fight a 3-alarm fire that began in 1 house, quickly spread.

NEW LONDON, CT — A blaze that began in one unoccupied house on New London's shoreline soon spread to several others Monday morning, with cold winds likely fueling the fire.

Firefighters from the region responded to the three-alarm blaze at 11 Mott Ave. just after 9 a.m.

Homes on Mott Avenue and nearby were evacuated. The New London Fire Department requested Eversource to shut down power to the area. First responders from across the region responded including: Waterford, Groton City, Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, Submarine Base, Norwich, Mohegan in Montville, along with ambulances and medics from many agencies.

By noon, as reported by the New London Day, one house collapsed and two others badly damaged. By late afternoon, the paper reported that in total, five houses were affected

A firefighter suffered a knee injury, but no residents were hurt, The Day reported. The fire is under investigation by the New London fire marshal.
