5 Protestors Blocking Electric Boat Entrance Arrested: New London PD

Five people were charged on accusations that they blocked the Electric Boat entrance in a protest Monday morning, police said.

NEW LONDON, CT — Several protestors were arrested after they blocked the entrances to the Electric Boat property, according to New London police.

Police responded to reports of protestors blocking the property's entrance at 5:54 a.m. Monday.

The protestors were standing behind life-sized wooden cutouts of J. Robert Oppenheimer to block the driveway entrances.

The cutouts had the following text: "Don't Be A 'Destroyer of Worlds': Stop The Columbia Sub."

Electric Boat was awarded a $9.5-billion contract to build the Columbia-class submarine in 2020.

Five protestors were charged with first-degree trespassing and disorderly conduct.

One of the protestors arrested is from New London. Two are from Worcester, MA. The remaining two are from Trumansburg, NY and Ithaca, NY, respectively.

All five were released on non-surety bonds and scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on March 15.

In November, another protest that blocked the entrance to Electric Boat resulted in nine arrests.
