Visiting Nurse Association Receives Chamber Foundation Grant

The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut was recently awarded a grant of $5,000 from the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut Foundation to support its Nurse/Family Care Program.

Funding from the Foundation will be used to provide low-income, first-time mothers and their babies with skilled nursing visits that begin during pregnancy and continue until the child turns two.  The goals of the program include improving prenatal health and birth outcomes, preparing disadvantaged new moms for the birth and early years of their babies’ lives, increasing their chances of pursuing educational opportunities and employment,  and  providing  a more stable home for raising happier, healthier children.

Mary Lenzini, President of VNASC, said about the program, “With so much happening on a political level in healthcare today, and the very tight budgets the State of Connecticut and its municipalities are facing, the Nurse/Family Care Program is becoming more necessary in meeting the very critical needs of young, disadvantaged new mothers and their babies.”
