Christine Carver resigns, effective May 1, to take job in Newington

The assistant superintendent of the has resigned to take a new job in Newington.

Christine Carver's resignation will go into effect on May 1. She will become the associate superintendent of schools and chief of staff in the Office of Human Capital Development in the Newington Public Schools.

"Working in the New London Public Schools has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me," Carver said in a statement. "The work has not been easy, but it has certainly been worthwhile. We have made many changes during my 12-year tenure, but we have also accomplished a great deal to provide a better education for all of our students. I am so proud to have been a part of the New London team, and I want to thank all of you for your dedication, support and resiliency."

According to news archives, Carver first began working for the district as a special education teacher at in 2000. She later became supervisor of special education and in 2004 was named director of special services. She has been assistant superintendent since 2009, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Last year, the Board of Education voted 5-2 to through 2013.
