Board of Education Will Review School Use Policy

Use of facilities guidelines differ from those of Recreation Department

The Policy Committee of the Board of Education will review the rules for community use of facilities, the board unanimously voted on Thursday.

The decision to further revise the policy came about because the use of school facilities policy is not in compliance with the policy of the . Superintendent Nicholas Fischer said the committee will review both documents and make any necessary changes.

The updated policy, , sets protocol for the use of school buildings for community organizations. It states that the facilities are normally available on weekends, holidays, and from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays.

The policy also distinguishes between non-profit charitable groups associated with the board, city-subsidized groups and organizations, and out-of-town non-profit groups or organizations. Rental fees are waived for the first two groups, but the last group must pay $50 for the use of some facilities and $200 for others. Each group is also charged for custodial staff or other personnel assigned to cover the event.
