Save New London's Services

Support the services for New London's citizens by voting "YES" in the upcoming referendum!

It’s well understood the people of New London are tired of paying cumbersome taxes, but laying off more hard working men and woman who provide essential public services is not going to put more money in our pockets or improve the quality of life in our city. That’s why our union, AFSCME Local 1378, is asking for the great citizens of the City of New Londonto support the budget at the upcoming referendum.

We represent a small but dedicated group of cityworkers – electricians, maintainers, carpenters, janitors, painters, clerical, dispatchers – who are proud to serve the citizens and businesses of New London.  Many of us reside in the city, and all of us pay taxes and purchases goods and services locally.  Services to youth as well senior citizens will be cut.  The closing of the Senior Center would also be on the block.

We are asking you to vote “yes” because cutting services and jobs will make New London worse, not better, in the long run. We have always been part of the solution to protect services, giving up raises, paying more for health insurance, accepting furlough days and the like.

Voting “no” on Sept. 18 will force more cuts that will impair public safety, snow plowing and leaf pick up, trash collection and the like, while discouraging people from living or doing business here.

Voting “yes” will protect the services that keep New London safe, clean and livable.
