Chamber Leadership Group Revamps Drop In Learning Center

Participants in the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT Leadership program donated more than 250 combined hours of community improvement service earlier this month at the Drop-In Learning Center in New London. And that was only the beginning.

The class, with 28 members, raised more than $3,500 among their friends, family, and co-workers. They also secured in-kind donations from generous business partners.

Rings End Paint Center in New London supplied paint and supplies valued at $2,000 to paint interior sections of the center. Mystic Aquarium, UBS, Surplus Unlimited, B-T Tile, Home Depot, TrueValue Mystic, and Target also supported the project with donations.

Thanks to their generosity, the group was able to complete the Center’s facelift as well as donate instructional supplies and e-readers for the children there. The center serves over 125 children who are enjoying the newly refurbished classrooms and lounge areas.

An essential aspect of the Leadership Program, now in its 25th year, involves giving back to the local community through a comprehensive class project for which the group partners with a Chamber member non-profit organization. Last year's group helped refurbish the Covenant Shelter in New London, including interior paint and stripes in the parking lot.
