Conn College Ramps Up Fall Weekend Festivities
Last major event celebrating centennial takes place this weekend

The Fall Weekend at tends to be a major event each year, though this year’s event promises a bit of extra fun as the college celebrates its centennial.
The weekend’s event get an early start with shows on Thursday and Friday, though the main schedule starts at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday and continues into Sunday. Amy Martin, spokesperson for the college, said the events are geared toward alumni, students, and faculty at the college, although the public is also welcome. She said she is anticipating a crowd due to the centennial and the fact that the weekend is the last of the major events celebrating the milestone.
“We’ve already had to set up extra parking,” she said.

Parking is available in the lot north of The Plex or south of the Cummings Art Center, as well as temporary lots on the Chapel Green and Williams School Green. Faculty parking will also be open to visitors for the weekend.
The first event on the Fall Weekend schedule is “Foundations, Dreams, and Inspirations,” a centennial theatrical production taking place at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Tansill Blackbox Theater. On Friday, events include an invitation to sign steel beams that will be used in the construction of a new science hall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., a discussion of the evolution of liberal arts education at 4 p.m. at the Cro’s Nest, and an a capella concert at 8 p.m. at Harkness Chapel.

The Pipes and Drums will lead a 9 a.m. opening of Saturday’s “Big Event.” The "biggest event of the centennial" starts at 9:45 a.m. at the Palmer Auditorium and will include inspirational talks and performances by students, staff, and faculty. Student groups will take part in Harvestfest from noon to 3 p.m. on the Tempel Green, discussing their organization and selling food and other goods to raise funds. The green will also be the site for a men’s soccer showdown between Connecticut College and the at noon. Sunday’s events will include a senior class brunch from 10 a.m. to noon.
