About the artist:
From the age of 2, Elizabeth Limkemann frequently had her fingers on a piano or organ keyboard. She began studying piano at age 6 and started playing the organ at 14, and was soon recruited to play for services in her church. However, it was not until her 40s that she began to discover the expressive possibilities of the organ beyond being “a boring instrument played in church,” which was how she thought of the organ until then. After that epiphany she went on to earn a Master’s degree in organ performance at the University of Akron in Ohio. In 1994, upon moving to Connecticut, she noticed a large sign in front of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mystic proclaiming: ORGANIST NEEDED. She has been the organist for that congregation ever since.
