Longtime K-9 Officer Set To Retire: New London PD
A New London K-9 officer is set to retire this week after serving a number of years with the department.

NEW LONDON, CT — A New London K-9 officer is set to retire this week after serving a number of years with the department. According to a post on the department's Facebook page, K-9 Bessie will be retiring to a "comfortable and well deserved civilian lifestyle" after more than seven years of service.
According to police, Bessie began her partnership with Officer Jeffrey Nichols in November 2013. Prior to Nichols, she was partnered with former New London Police Officer and current Connecticut State Trooper Kyle Gorra from 2010 to 2013.
"Please join us in saying congratulations to Officer Jeffrey Nichols and Bessie for a great K-9 career," police said on Facebook. "Thank you for your service to the citizens of New London and your New London Police K-9 family."
