Mitchell College Sponsoring Earth Day Events

will recognize Earth Day on Thursday and Friday with a discussion on the school's environmental work and a cleanup of their Pequot Ave. beach.

The event is sponsored by the college, Michael's Dairy, , and Patch.com. This website and the radio station will be broadcasting live from Friday's events, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Thursday, the Weller Center will present a video on a five-day field ecology course which took students and faculty members from Mitchell College and the to Bermuda. Participants visited a research station, aquarium, bird park, reefs, national park, and a beach as part of their field and lab work studying human impact on the environment.

The video will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A display of student posters on invasive species and the restoration of Mitchell Beach will also be featured at the Weller Center.

On Friday, students and faculty from the college's life science and marine ecology courses are participating in a cleanup of Mitchell Beach from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members of the public are invited to join the effort, and all equipment will be provided. Volunteers will also receive a complimentary small ice cream from Michael's Dairy.
