York CI Officers Host Tip-A-Cop Event for Special Olympics

Officers with York Correctional Institution will host a Tip-A-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut at Muddy Waters Cafe on Saturday, May 12th, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Muddy Waters Cafe is located at 42 Bank Street in New London.

During the event, officers will volunteer their time to assist restaurant staff in taking orders and serving customers. All tips the officer receive for their efforts will go to Special Olympics Connecticut to support its year-round sports, health and fitness programs for athletes of all abilities.

About the Special Olympics Connecticut Law Enforcement Torch Run®

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics Connecticut is one of the movement's largest fundraisers. This year-round program involves law enforcement officers from across the state who volunteer their time to raise awareness and funds through events they host including Tip-a-Cops, Cop-on-Tops, and Jail N’ Bail fundraisers.

In addition, each year in June, over 1,500 officers and athletes carry the Special Olympics torch, with its "Flame of Hope”, through hundreds of cities and towns across the state, covering over 530 miles in three days. Officers run the “Final Leg” and light the ceremonial cauldron during Opening Ceremonies for the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games.
