New London Wrong-Way Driver Charged With DUI: State Police

A man is facing charges as state police said he crossed the Gold Star Bridge going the wrong way.

NEW LONDON, CT — A man is facing charges as state police said he crossed the Gold Star Bridge going the wrong way. The driver was charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Police said a trooper was driving on I-95 northbound at the Gold Star Bridge at 1:03 a.m. Wednesday when a gray 2000 Toyota Camry passed him going the wrong way.

The trooper alerted dispatch and another trooper who was nearby was able to stop the Camry in a DOT turnaround.

The driver was transported to Troop E where he failed sobriety tests, according to police.

He posted $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 4.
