Results from Monday's samples showed elevated bacterial levels at Green Harbor Beach in New London and thus, the swimming advisory previously posted (July 1, 2024) remained in place. Green Harbor was re-sampled on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Re-sample results showed elevated bacteria levels persisted. A second re-sample was drawn today, Friday, July 12, 2024, and results will become available over the weekend.
The area remains under advisory at this time.
Please be aware that rain or other contamination events occurring before the Monday and Wednesday morning sampling may have contributed to elevated bacterial counts in the water. Areas with stormwater runoff (storm drainpipes or extensive impervious surfaces), or low water turnover (inland bathing areas), are particularly vulnerable to increased bacterial counts following rainfall. We recommend all individuals responsible for the bathing areas take these events into consideration.
