To My Newtown Family...

A letter to Newtown from Tim Haas

On December 14 we were struck with a devastating tragedy that will echo in our hearts forever.    Not only was the innocence of our town taken, but the immensity of our loss cannot be quantified. I have had the privilege of attending funerals for our beautiful children, who share a better place in the arms of our Heavenly Host.

We have always been a community that shares.  From the Christmas Tree Lighting, to Relay for Life and the support we drew from each other during the recent storms, we have always come together in a unified manner. I am confident we have the strength to see this through with even more compassion than we normally display.

The media has portrayed us as a close-knit community that takes care of each other.  This is absolutely true.  However today, we not only have each other, but support from all over the world.  I have already been contacted by numerous chapters of the Knights of Columbus, churches, Chambers of Commerce and individuals. Their sentiments of shared sorrow and pain come from as far away as Paris and Pakistan. I was especially touched by the kind words from the Chamber of Commerce of Aurora, Colorado who understands wholeheartedly what we are experiencing.

As president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Knights of Columbus, I offer my personal condolences to the families directly affected.  I urge you to stay strong for one another during these challenging times.  We will overcome. God Bless America.  God Bless Newtown.
With my deepest sympathy,

Tim Haas
