Newtown Hook and Ladder Will Build New Firehouse Near Trinity Episcopal Church
The fire company presented their proposal to the Town of Newtown at the special Police Commissioners meeting held in December.

In a special Police Commissioners meeting, the Commission considered the application of Newtown Hook and Ladder to construct a new 16,000 square foot fire house at 12 Church Hill Road. They currently operate out of 45 Main Street, behind the Edmond Town Hall.
The proposed fire house location is owned by Trinity Episcopal Church and the fire company will share the existing driveway with Trinity Church. The driveway exits onto Church Hill Road.
Rob Manna presented the proposal before the Commission. According to meeting notes, Chairman Mangiafico asked why the company decided on that location and Manna said Newtown Hook and Ladder considered other locations but they were cost prohibitive. It would also increase the response times.

Newtown Hook and Ladder’s district includes Peck’s Lane on Route 25, Church Hill Road to the I-84 bridges, Currituck Road to the highway overpass, Route 6 to Susan Lane, and Hanover Road to the Brookfield line.
Land Use Director George Benson said at the meeting he did not feel the need for an engineering study based on the fact that the new location would use a pre-existing curb cut driveway. Benson told Patch that there are approximately 1.2 calls per day so it would not greatly impact traffic.
