Parents and community members are still reeling after the tragic events of December 14, 2012 and this incident opens a still fresh wound.
One parent who did not wish to be named told Patch:
"If there is an incident involving a gun at my kid's school at 9 a.m., I want to know about it right away. We didn't find out until almost 2:30 p.m., just a few minutes before it was splashed all over the news."
The Newtown Action Alliance also shared their concern in a statement sent to Patch:
“Our community is still reeling from the tragic shooting that occurred on Dec. 14, 2012. Therefore, we are shocked and enormously disappointed that a middle school teacher from Newtown would bring his gun onto school property.”
School security officer. Sgt. Aaron Bahamonde said at the meeting that district policy allows officers to be armed but off-duty officers are not allowed to bring a weapon on school property, according to The News Times.
