1. Newtown Police Lieutenant Graduates From FBI National Academy (patch.com) — Newtown residents may notice a new credential behind one of their police leaders, as Lt. Scott Smith has completed the FBI National Academy's advanced training program. Chief David Kullgren says Smith's leadership training will strengthen the department and ultimately benefit the wider Newtown community.

Partner in Sandy Hook condo, retail plan mired in foreclosure says work could start 'pretty soon' (stamfordadvocate.com) — A long-awaited Sandy Hook center project for 31 condos and shops in Newtown is stalled in foreclosure and partner disputes, but a developer says he still hopes to start work soon. Town approvals remain valid, while lawsuits over a $2 million loan and partner buyouts continue, leaving residents waiting to see who will actually build the largest local project in years.
   

3. Yvonne York Kopins (newtownbee.com) — Newtown is mourning longtime resident Yvonne York Kopins, 87, who spent most of her life in town and was deeply involved in local women's clubs and community activities. Remembered for her creativity, love of family, and many interests, she leaves children, grandchildren, and close friends cherishing her memory.
   

4. Hugh J. Lavery, Attorney-at-Law (June 20, 1940-September 29, 2026) (newtownbee.com) — Newtown is saying goodbye to longtime town attorney and community leader Hugh J. Lavery, who died at 86 after decades of legal service, civic involvement, and youth sports coaching in town. Friends and family can attend calling hours Friday and a Saturday funeral at Honan Funeral Home, followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown.
   

5. Make-A-Wish surprises Newtown 5-year-old with a new puppy (nhregister.com) — A Newtown 5-year-old recently had his wish granted at the local Tractor Supply, where Make-A-Wish Connecticut surprised him with a new puppy and a $1,000 shopping spree. The store's Newtown team showered him and his dog Oreo with treats, gifts, and special outfits, turning the visit into a community celebration of his love for animals.
