NORWALK, CT — The coronavirus claimed the lives of three more Norwalk residents over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths in the city to 162 since the pandemic began in March, according to Mayor Harry Rilling.

Additionally, another 308 new cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in the city over the weekend, which resulted in the total number of cases in Norwalk since March exceeding 5,000 (5,091).

"I am so sorry to share that we have lost three more residents to COVID-19," Rilling said. "My deepest sympathies go out to their families, friends, and loved ones. As a result of the continued high number of cases in Norwalk, city officials have increased enforcement efforts "to ensure businesses are following public health guidelines," Rilling added.

"However, we need residents to take these measures as well in their personal lives," Rilling said. "Small gatherings, even with close friends or relatives at home, can lead to dire consequences if mask wearing and physical distancing measures are not taken. Please continue to be vigilant as we head deeper into winter."
