Norwalk Rep. Bruce Morris Files Ballot Petition To Run For Mayor
The six-term Democratic state representative obtained more than double the amount of signatures needed to get onto the ballot.

NORWALK, CT — Bruce Morris, the six-term Democratic state representative, turned in 281 petition signatures this week to appear on the ballot this fall to run for mayor of Norwalk, he announced Thursday.
He only needed 133 signatures to appear on the ballot as a petitioning candidate, so his total more than doubled the requirement. Morris turned in the signatures to the Norwalk Town Clerk's office on the deadline day of Aug. 9.
"This is a grassroots victory for the people of Norwalk, and the first step toward empowering all our citizens to help bridge the gaps that have for too long separated our city from economic opportunity and long term growth," said Morris in a statement.

Morris is currently Deputy House Speaker in Hartford, and he also serves as an Associate Pastor at Macedonia Church in Norwalk. He also sued his former employer, the Norwalk School System, earlier this year in a labor complaint.
"I am particularly gratified by the numbers that have called for my candidacy. Their signatures echo the voices I have heard for years from community and neighborhood groups, business men and women, from our schools, the underserved and others, encouraging me to run. I am overwhelmed by their support. This race is for them, and together we will achieve greater economic security and a better quality of life for all of Norwalk," Morris added.
