2 Adults, Child Suffer Life-Threatening Injuries In Norwich Crash
Firefighters needed the "jaws of life" after a car went off the road into the woods in Taftville on Friday, according to fire officials.

NORWICH, CT — Two adults and a child suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash after their vehicle left the road and hit trees Friday night in the Taftville section of Norwich, according to Taftville Fire Company #2.
Firefighters responded to a call at 6:18 p.m. reporting a single car off the road on Taftville-Occum Road. Firefighters arrived and found a car in the woods.
An investigation found the car had left the road while trying to negotiate a turn, hit two trees causing them to fall, then spun backwards into a large double tree.

Two of the people managed to leave the car but one person remained trapped. Firefighters needed to use the "jaws of life" and other tools to extricate the trapped person. They were able to extricate the person in 18 minutes.
All three victims were taken to Backus Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Two of the victims were taken by Lifestar Helicopter to other hospitals — Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children's Hospital, respectively — for higher-level care.

Police told WTNH News-8 that all three victims were stable as of Saturday morning.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
