Car Plunges Into Norwich River; Driver Survives
A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after his car went down an embankment and into the Shetucket River.
NORWICH, CT — A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after his car plunged into the Shetucket River early Thursday morning, The Day reported. The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. near the intersection of Water Street, Laurel Hill Avenue, and New Wharf Drive.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and made it to the banks of the river.
The man was conscious and alert when he was transported to Backus Hospital, The Norwich Bulletin reported.

The Norwich Dive Team worked for 30 minutes attempting to recover the vehicle, which was 27 feet deep under the water. Operations stopped Thursday morning due to low visibility and strong currents, according to The Norwich Bulletin.
