Driver Destroys Bus Stop, Strikes Building In Norwich: Reports

A woman is facing charges that she drove through a bus stop and into the side of a building in Norwich, according to reports.

NORWICH, CT — A woman was charged with driving under the influence after her car destroyed a bus stop and crashed into a business in Norwich, according to reports.

The accident happened in the area of Asylum and West Main streets around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Emergency crews arrived to find that a car had struck the side of a store; the address belongs to Sign Professionals, WTNH News-8 reported.

The building suffered structural and electrical damage.

Before hitting the building, the driver went through a bus stop, taking down its roof and destroying the glass, benches, electric service, and traffic signs, according to NBC CT.

The utility company responded to restore power to the bus stop and building.

It's expected the business will remain closed until the damage is investigated and the premises are deemed safe, NBC CT reported.

The driver rejected medical attention. She was later taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to WTNH News-8.

The woman was charged with operating under the influence and a drug-related crime.
