Norwich Man Charged With Operating Drug Factory: Police

A man nearly crashed into troopers head-on early Wednesday morning, police said. Troopers later seized drugs from his car.

NORWICH, CT — A Norwich man is facing charges after he was found with large quantities of drugs following a traffic stop, according to police.

State troopers were driving on Laurel Hill Avenue in Norwich at 2:14 a.m. Wednesday when they saw an oncoming vehicle traveling in the opposite lane. Troopers avoided being struck by the oncoming vehicle and turned around to initiate a traffic stop.

Police said they identified the driver as Dillen Dye, 28, of Norwich. Troopers said Dye was showing signs of intoxication. He was given a field sobriety test and failed, according to state police.

A K-9 searched Dye's vehicle and alerted troopers to illegal drugs in the vehicle's trunk.

Troopers then seized 10.5 grams of cocaine with packaging material, 422 grams of suspected marijuana with packaging material, an electronic scale, and cash.

Police took Dye into custody. He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell, operation of a drug factory, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with operating under the influence and failure to maintain lane.

He was released after posting a combined $5,500 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 11.
