Scammers Defraud Norwich Victim Out Of 'Significant Sum'

"The victim... fell prey to an elaborate scam orchestrated by unknown individuals," police said.

NORWICH, CT — Two men are accused of scamming a Norwich resident "out of a significant sum of money," according to police.

"The victim, a Norwich resident, fell prey to an elaborate scam orchestrated by unknown individuals, who falsely led the victim to believe they were conducting legitimate financial transactions," police said.

Police conducted an investigation after the resident was defrauded during the week of Feb. 9. The scammers were then attempting to steal more money from the victim, police said.

A coordinated meeting with the two suspects was set up for Tuesday. Police then took both suspects into custody.

Yudong Li, 30, of Queens, New York, and Kun Chen, 32, of Brooklyn, New York, were charged with criminal attempt and first-degree larceny.

Both men were held on $150,000 cash surety bonds and appeared in Norwich Superior Court on Wednesday.
