Orange Man Accused of Murdering His Mother Reportedly Confessed Repeatedly

When the suspect's father found him, he was clutching a Bible and allegedly admitted killing his mother.

When Timothy Granata, 22, saw his father moments after he is accused of killing his mother, Dr. Claudia Dinan Granata, at their 130 Wild Road Drive house in August, he was sitting on the front steps gripping a Bible and said, “You’re not going to like it, I killed her,” the New Haven Register reports.

Timothy Granata allegedly confessed to cops on several occasions, “I killed her, I stabbed her,” the Register’s Phyllis Swebilius reports.

Granata appeared in Superior Court, Milford on Wednesday where new details were shed regarding the homicide.

A Superior Court judge declared Granata competent to stand trial on murder charges as his attorney Hugh Keefe, of New Haven, had stated his clients suffers from mental health issues. Granata had previously undergone a psychiatric evaluation.

Granata will next appear in Superior Court on Feb. 4. According to police reports, Claudia Granata suffered injuries to her head, neck, torso and extremities, the Register reports. Knives and a sledgehammer were found at the crime scene.

Granata’s attorney said his client’s father still is supportive of him though the murder has destroyed the family, the Register reports.

In court, Granata’s bond was reduced from $2 million to $750,000.
