Oxford 2015 Election Guide: The Candidates, Polling Places, Sample Ballot

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3 and we share with you some of the information you'll need to know.

Tuesday Nov. 3 is Election Day. Oxford is not only having a municipal Election, residents will also be voting on two questions which are on the ballot.

The first question will be on approving changes to the Town Charter and the second question will be on approval to build a $3.5 million library.

The Oxford First Selectman race pits two-term GOP Incumbent George R. Temple versus his Democratic challenger Kathy Johnson, a former first selectman.

Incumbent GOP Selectman Jeffrey J. Haney Sr. will go up against Democratic challenger Peter Bunzi.

Temple, an attorney, has been a big proponent of the proposed Oxford Power Plant saying it will bring in thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue for the town, which will help ensure the tax rate can remain low.

Temple, a former Library Board member, has also supported the construction of a new public library in town.

On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, residents will also be asked whether to approve spending up to $3.5 million for the construction of a new library in town.

Temple’s opponent is Kathy Johnson, who served previously as first selectman in 2001-2003. At the time she didn’t seek reelection because she was caring for her ill husband, the Republican-American has reported.

Johnson and Bunzi both oppose the proposed Oxford Power Plant, and numerous residents have rallied to oppose the facility as well claiming health concerns and cited worries over declining property values.

Oxford Polling Places

Voting will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Quaker Farms School, 30 Great Oak Road.
