Ridgefield Chiropractors Offer Healing Through Natural Approach
Peterson Chiropractic has changed their name but their commitment to helping the community to heal naturally remains the same.

RIDGEFIELD, CT — When Nick Peterson was a hard-hitting college baseball and hockey player with numerous injuries, he was not thinking about chiropractic as a career. However, after he realized how being treated through natural methods was helping to prolong his sports career into his late 20’s, he soon changed his mind.
“I saw how being treated lengthened my sports career and made it better. By the time I was 30 I had accumulated enough knowledge because of how many injuries I had personally,” Peterson said from his Ridgefield office.
Dr. Nicholas Peterson, 39, joined his father Dr. Nickalos Peterson, 70, in his practice in 2008 after completing six years of studying to be a licensed chiropractor at Life University. While his father didn’t press too hard, he always knew that it was something he’d like to continue— to carry on the family business that has been going strong for close to 40 years.
The younger Peterson credits their success and longevity to the ‘small miracles’ that happen there every day.
“When you see someone who had no other way to get pain relief from migraines or chronic back pain, it’s the small miracles that keep you going,” he said. “We had a woman who suffered from lymphedema and we were able to help her feel better. It’s very rewarding.”
The Petersons recently announced that they have changed their business name from “Peterson Chiropractic & Wellness” to “Peterson Chiropractic & Acupuncture.” Although Dr. Nick Peterson was licensed in acupuncture last year, he said he waited to change the name to be sure it was not just the latest fad.
“It was more like an experiment in the beginning,” he said, “but now we’re seeing that people are willing to come here and trust us to let us try natural methods of treatment that they might not normally consider.”
Dr. Peterson said they use two types of acupuncture to treat all sorts of ailments— from chronic back and neck pain to anxiety and depression to digestive issues and more. Dry needling allows the doctor to treat patients through trigger point therapy while T.C.M., Traditional Chinese Medicine, stays closer to the surface of the skin. By using the dry needle method, Dr. Peterson said he is better able to reach stubborn, stiff and sore muscles that may otherwise prevent adjustments through chiropractic care.
The reason Dr. Peterson said he decided to get licensed was because of personal experience. “I was traveling when I was playing college sports and had really bad back issues and couldn’t find a chiropractor. So I decided to try acupuncture and it worked.”
In addition to chiropractic care, massage therapy and acupuncture, Peterson Chiropractic & Acupuncture also offers nutritional supplements and coaching through their partners at Nutri-Metrix.
“We want people to know that our practice is more than just treating back pain and neck pain. It’s no dark secret anymore that natural health and alternative healing methods work. We try to provide a more natural approach to traditional medicine and see the positive impact it makes on our patients,” Dr. Peterson said.
