RIDGEFIELD, CT — The Connecticut Giant Pumpkin Growers Club will present Ridgefield’s 12th Annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off Festival on Sunday, Sept. 22 in Ballard Park.

The annual one-day competition attracts thousands of gourd gawkers, and the massive pumpkins can weigh close to a ton.

The Atlantic Giant, or Cucurbita maxima strain of pumpkins are "exceptionally easy to grow," according to pumpkin seed seller Dill, provided you have both time and patience.

In addition to ogling the orange monstrosities, attendees can meet the growers, listen to music, and shop the farm stands and other vendors.
