Titanic Diver Shares Her Story
Jennifer Carter, the first woman to dive down to the Titanic remains, stopped by The Lodge at Cold Spring Retirement Community to share her story, as well as some nifty trinkets from her adventure!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see the wreckage of the most infamous ship in history? Residents and guests at The Lodge at Cold Spring were treated to the next best thing, as Jennifer Carter, the first woman to dive down to the sunken ship, visited the community this past Tuesday to share her story.
Jennifer started her presentation with a slideshow of pictures from her adventure. She dazzled spectators with images of the rusted, broken ship at the bottom of the ocean. She showed how she recovered a safe, purse, and other miscellaneous jewelry and trinkets from the murky depths. The audience was amazed by how intact all of the objects were. Dishes and stainless steel platters, as well as some of the jewelry, remained unbroken and free from rust and other sea damage.
After this, Jennifer explained all of the perils of her journey to the Titanic. She made the decent in a claustrophobically small submersible, where even the slightest rupture in the vehicle would have been catastrophic. Too add to the danger, she was told “if anything happens down there, you can’t be rescued.” However, none of that deterred her from going two and a half miles into the depths of the ocean, in total darkness, to see the remains of “the unsinkable ship.”

She also brought replicas of some of the dishes and jewelry she herself had recovered from the ship. After her presentation was over, Jennifer sold some of the books she wrote about her experience and even offered to sign them. Although many people will never get to see the wreckage first-hand, the way Jennifer shared her story gave all who were in attendance the closest experience possible.
