Derby Police Department Seeks To Hire Entry Level Officers

DERBY, CT — The Derby Police Department is looking to add entry level officers to its ranks, according to officials, one of several area police departments currently looking to hire new officers.

Starting salary for an entry level police officer in Derby is $67,184, and it can increase to $83,137 depending on experience.

To be eligible for the Derby department, an entry level recruit has to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License
  • Pass a written exam with a minimum score of 60 percent
  • Pass an oral interview, again with a minimum of 60 percent

How many entry level officers the department is looking to hire was not disclosed, but typically positions become available after retirements or transfers.

In addition to Derby, other area police departments looking to hire officers include Southbury and Newtown.
