DERBY, CT — A close Republican primary race for mayor is expected to be recounted later this week as unofficial results roll in Tuesday night, according to city voting officials.

City Clerk Marc Garofalo said in an email unofficial results released around 10 p.m. show challenger Gino DiGiovanni Jr. held a narrow lead over Mayor Richard Dziekan, with DiGiovanni receiving 202 votes and Dziekan receiving 192, a difference of ten votes.

According to Garofalo, because the margin of victory is less than 20 votes, an automatic recount is anticipated to take place on Friday at noon at Derby City Hall.
