Rec Path Celebration

Hike, Bike,Celebrate! It's been a BIG year for the Rec Path: Two new miles of path constructed; purchase of the "Great Ledge" property-- the last property along the route; and we can now ride a regular bike or walk all the way from Pine Lake 4.0 miles to Huntington Center without detouring onto hiking trails. We'll be celebrating these milestones starting at noon Saturday, Sept. 24, behind Pine Lake. Park at Pine Lake along Shelton Ave. (For GPS use #135 Shelton Avenue). The Mayor will be honoring PerkinElmer for all their volunteer work along the paths and formally name "Basil Brook" in honor of Basil Dikovsky, who donated land for the Rec Path. We also hope to have activities for the kids and some food and a raffle.

BIKE: Bike to Huntington Center and back, 8 miles total. Optional stop for lunch at Huntington Center. There are some long hills, not steep, but long and they can be tiring if you have not been on a bike for awhile. Fun going downhill. Parents need to supervise kids on some of the long downhill sections and street crossings. Surface is crushed stone. Center quarter mile is unimproved utility road, but most people should be able to handle it.

HIKE: Walk 4.0 miles to Huntington Center, very easy. We'll have shuttle rides back to Pine Lake. Optional lunch at Huntington Center (it's tradition to eat at Huntington Street Cafe). This is NOT the old Bridge-to-Bridge route. Dogs on leash welcome.

RAINDATE: Sunday, September 25 at 11:30 am.
