SHELTON, CT — A man accused of entering a Shelton gas station with a sawed-off shotgun and demanding money earlier this month was recently arrested, according to the Shelton Police Department.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Colin Bitsco said officers were called to a Shell gas station on Bridgeport Avenue on March 11 after receiving a report of an armed robbery involving a shotgun.

According to Bitsco, a person arrived at the gas station in a stolen pickup truck, traveling in tandem with a Toyota Camry driven by an associate.

Bitsco said the person entered the gas station armed with a sawed-off shotgun, pointed the weapon at a cashier's face and demanded money.

The person then forced the cashier to the ground before fleeing the area, according to Bitsco.

According to Bitsco, police detectives identified the suspect as Steve Nakhoune, 34, and obtained an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree robbery.

Nakhoune had been released from custody on a court-set bond two days before the robbery following a prior strong-arm robbery incident on Feb. 21 in Shelton, according to Bitsco.

Bitsco said Nakhoune is accused of taking part in "a multi-state crime spree throughout the New England region" following the incidents in Shelton.

Nakhoune was arrested by Northampton, Mass., police on March 14 with assistance from Massachusetts State Police, according to Bitsco.

Nakhoune was extradited to Connecticut on March 19 and processed on charges of first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and third-degree assault of an elderly person.

He is currently being held on a $750,000 court-set bond, according to Bitsco.
