Shelton Group Kicked Out Of D.C. Museum After Spitting Incident

A white student spit on a black visitor at the National Museum of African American History. Whether it was stupidity or bias is unclear.

SHELTON, CT — A group from Shelton Intermediate School was kicked out of the Smithsonian National Museum of African History in Washington, D.C. after a white student spit on a black visitor.

Superintendent Chris Clouet posted about the incident on the school system's Facebook page.

"This kind of action is not a reflection of who our students are, or who we are as a community," Clouet said.

SIS Principal Dina Marks tweeted that the white student spit over a balcony, but she didn't believe it was racially motivated and was an act of stupidity, according to the Shelton Herald.

Clouet said it wasn't clear whether the student involved did it out of stupidity or if there was bias, but regardless the person being spit on may not see it as a joke.

The entire contingent of around 100 students and a dozen chaperones from SIS were kicked out of the museum and the student involved was sent home, according to the Hartford Courant.

Shelton Intermediate School had a student assembly after a student wore blackface and posted a racial slur on Snapchat earlier this school year.
