SHELTON, CT — Shawn Sequeira, Shelton's Chief of Police since 2017, recently was named one of the 100 Most Influential Blacks in the State of Connecticut by the state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Sequeira and others will receive the honor during a ceremony on Oct. 23 at the Foxwoods Resort Casino which will feature a performance by music superstar Nas.

"The 100 Most Influential Blacks in Connecticut Award Ceremony celebrates the influencers, community leaders, and industry trailblazers who often go unrecognized for their exceptional work in the community," Scot X. Esdaile, president of the NAACP's Connecticut Conference of Branches, said in a statement. "Leading as a Black person in Connecticut is always challenging, but our current climate highlights the need for them to be recognized, affirmed, and honored."
