Video: Skunk And Fox Have Short Confrontation In Shelton

SHELTON, CT — A skunk and fox had a short confrontation in a Shelton resident's driveway recently.
The video as seen in the Neighbors app was posted Feb. 15 and shows a fox get startled by a skunk's presence. The fox ran away and both critters went their separate ways without violence.
The red fox is found throughout Connecticut in abundance, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. They prefer a mixture of forest and open fields. Foxes eat both plant and animal foods. They tend to be solitary and hunt alone. They are known to prey on small animals such as ducks, chicken, rabbits and young lambs.

Foxes can be seen during any time of the day, but are most active near dawn and dusk. DEEP suggests that cat owners keep their pets indoors, especially at night and to keep small dogs on a leash under close supervision.
Skunks are one of the most common forms of wildlife problems in Connecticut and not only because of their smell. They dig up lawns in search of grubs and can get into loosely covered garbage bins. They occasionally take up residence under porches or houses.
