What's Open, What's Closed in Shelton on Labor Day 2014
What's open and closed on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014.

Labor Day is held on the first Monday in September each year.
Unofficially the last day of summer, the holiday “constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country,” according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Here’s the list of what is open and closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1:

Open:
- Retail Stores
- Supermarkets
- Restaurants
- Convenience stores
- Bars/Taverns
- Gyms/Health Clubs
- Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open. Many retail stores or gyms/health clubs may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.
Closed:

- Banks
- All U.S post offices are closed
- Stock Market
- Federal Offices
- State Offices
- Town Hall and municipal offices
- Schools
- Libraries
Also, there will be no trash collection Monday, Sept. 1, according to the following release from the City of Shelton:
Due to the LABOR DAY HOLIDAY there will be no TRASH or RECYCLING collected on Monday September 1, 2014. Monday’s route will be picked up on Tuesday.
Tuesday through Friday, residents are advised to put their TRASH and RECYCLING out on their normally scheduled day. If it is not picked up on that day, it will be on the following day.
Anything not picked up on Friday will be collected on Saturday.
The Transfer Station and the City Yard will be CLOSED on Monday, September 1, 2014 for the Holiday. They will reopen on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
