Big Data for Small Business: Free Talk on Tuesday, Dec. 9

Free public lecture at the Simsbury Public Library on using big data tools for small business decisions.

Data analysis and research is a daily part of every business. Do you track your sales receipts; record your website hits or social media engagement; count operational hours and hours worked by staff; collect details about customers or vendors? Tonight, you’re going to learn how to pull that information together to answer questions and solve problems.

There are many small and medium scale enterprises that never utilize the full potential of data analytics to gain insights into what they’re doing right or wrong in their businesses. As a small business owner or sole proprietor, you might overlook data collection and analysis as something you don’t have the time or money for. This session will address:

  • Road blocks to data usage in small to medium scale operations;
  • Determining specific areas to measure, and how to measure them;
  • How to link metrics directly to outcomes; and
  • How to make the best use of some free and simple tools to get started.

Pamela Chandra, founder of Hedgehog Insights, has performed data analytics with Accenture and Time Warner retail, working on almost all stages of data handling and interpretation – from raw data collection to applying complex statistical procedures. She is also a volunteer mentor with the Hartford Chapter of SCORE. You can find more information about her work at www.hedgehoginsights.com.

The talk takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the library.
