SOUTHINGTON, CT — Four of Southington's finest are going above and beyond the call of duty Friday in their quest to raise money for Connecticut Special Olympics.

In fact, they're going way, way "above" — so far above they need to rappel down a massive building to finish their tasks.

The fearless foursome is planning to rappel down the Mohegan Sun's 34-story hotel building, braving the heights to help a good cause.

This week, the SPD asked the community to make a few donations to help out the officers.
Southington police personnel expected to go down the hotel are: Donald MacKenzie, Melissa Kelly, Lauren Verab and Jose Luna-Peguero.

The department, via its Facebook page, this week asked to the community to donate to the cause.

"Four of our Southington Police heroes are preparing to go 'Over the Edge' by rappelling down Mohegan Sun," wrote the department.

"Please help by considering a donation to each or one of our officer's accounts as we raise funds for the Special Olympics Connecticut's year-round programs of sports training and athletic competition for people with intellectual disabilities."

The department posted links to each officer's donation drive in the comments section of the post.

Participants in the 'Over the Edge' fund-raiser were expected to go down the building sometime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday .
