Inspector General's Office Investigating Death Of Man In SWPD Custody
A 55-year-old man from Massachusetts was found unresponsive in his holding cell at South Windsor police headquarters early Monday afternoon.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — A Massachusetts man arrested Friday on family violence charges was found unresponsive in his cell at South Windsor police headquarters early Monday afternoon, and died at a local hospital shortly thereafter.
Kevin Doherty, 55, of Boston, was being held in lieu of $250,000 bond. Around 12:20 p.m. Monday, dispatch noticed him in apparent distress, and responding officers began CPR procedures. He was pronounced dead at Manchester Memorial Hospital at 1:29 p.m., according to the Office of the Connecticut Inspector General (OIG).
The OIG, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection and the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad are conducting an investigation into Doherty's death. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the manner of death.

Chief Kristian Lindstrom of the South Windsor Police Department extended his agency’s "thoughts and prayers to the Doherty family" and stated, "his department is cooperating
with the Office of Inspector General in its investigation."
