Contractor Charged With Skipping Out On Work In Stafford

A home improvement job in Stafford was left incomplete and the contractor ran off with the deposit, state police said.

STAFFORD, CT — A New Britain man has been charged with a home improvement contract violation and is accused of skipping out on a job in Stafford, an arrest warrant shows.

Jose Reyes, 56, was served the warrant on Sept. 6, state police said. He posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Sep. 16, records show.

According to a warrant, a homeowner on Prospect Heights on July 13 signed a contract with Reyes to perform a number of improvements for $4,500. A deposit of $3,000 was sent to Reyes and he cashed the check, according to a warrant.

On July 22, some of the work began, according to a warrant.

The homeowner then noticed some "rotting wood" was used with some footings for a porch, tried to contact Reyes about it, but he never returned, according to a warrant.

State police then applied for a warrant out of Rockville Superior Court.
