STAMFORD, CT — A 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Stamford earlier this year.

On March 23, police said a 2015 Chevy driven by Ward was exiting southbound I-95 at exit 9. Ward made a right onto East Main Street and struck 68-year-old Elena Laos, who was walking westbound in a crosswalk on East Main Street, police said.
Laos, a Stamford resident, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Stamford Hospital where she later died, police said.

Excessive speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision, police said, noting that Ward stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
However, police said Ward should have avoided Laos since she was within the crosswalk. After the SPD's investigation, they successfully obtained a warrant for Ward's arrest.
Ward is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, police said.
